I caught fish on a hook in the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. I very rarely take fish to eat, only occasionally to taste wild fish from the sea and treat my loved ones.
Most apartments are not equipped with good cooking utensils and it is necessary to adapt to the situation and cook with the utensils that are available.
The only seasoning I used for the fish was sea salt.
Seasoning: Season the fish with salt, pepper, and any other herbs or spices you like. Lemon juice, garlic, and dill are popular choices.
Cooking Method: You can cook fish in various ways, such as grilling, baking, frying, or steaming.
- Grilling: Preheat the grill and cook the fish for about 4-6 minutes per side, depending on thickness.
- Baking: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for about 20 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Frying: Heat oil in a pan and cook the fish for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Serving: Serve your cooked fish with sides like vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad.
Frying fish can be a delicious way to serve seafood. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you fry whole fish:
Ingredients:
- Whole fish (such as snapper, trout, or mackerel), cleaned and scaled
- Salt and pepper
- Optional herbs and spices (like garlic, lemon zest, or paprika)
- Oil (such as vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Fish:
- Ensure the fish is cleaned, scaled, and gutted. Rinse it under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.
- Make a few diagonal slashes on each side of the fish to help it cook evenly.
- Season the Fish:
- In a small bowl, mix the salt, pepper, and any optional spices. Rub this mixture generously inside the cavity and on the skin of the fish.
- For added flavor, you can stuff the cavity with slices of lemon, fresh herbs, or garlic cloves.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, pour enough oil to cover the bottom. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of the coating into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
- Fry the Fish:
- Carefully place the whole fish in the hot oil. Fry for about 4-6 minutes on each side, depending on the size of the fish, until the skin is golden brown and crispy, and the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Drain and Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the fish from the skillet and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve with lemon wedges, fresh herbs, and your choice of sides.
